ALMIGHTY GOD ART WORKS

Kwame Akoto (b. 1950, Kumasi, Ghana), who signs his work “Almighty God,” is one of Ghana’s most celebrated contemporary painters. Trained as a commercial sign painter, he founded Almighty God Art Works in 1972, developing a distinctive style of vividly colored paintings that combine expressive imagery with hand-painted text. Following his conversion to Christianity, his work became deeply rooted in biblical themes, moral lessons, portraits, and social commentary, earning international recognition for its powerful fusion of popular visual culture and personal faith.

Akoto’s paintings have been exhibited internationally, including the landmark Africa Explores: 20th Century African Art (New York, 1991) and the retrospective How Do You See This World? The Art of Almighty God at the Fowler Museum at UCLA. His work is represented in the collections of the British Museum, the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, and numerous other public and private collections in Europe and the United States.
