Joshua Baer

For nearly four decades, Joshua Baer has been at the forefront of authenticating, appraising, and preserving the history of Navajo blankets and rugs. As president of Joshua Baer & Company in Santa Fe, he has completed more than 3,000 appraisals and consulted for major institutions including Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Baer’s expertise has shaped both private and museum collections across the country—from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the Navajo Cultural Museum in Window Rock. A frequent lecturer and writer on Navajo weaving, he is widely regarded as one of the foremost authorities in the field, known for his deep scholarship, connoisseurship, and dedication to the cultural legacy of the Navajo people.

Mark Winter

Mark Winter has collected and dealt in Navajo and Southwestern textiles since 1970, handling over 20,000 pieces. He co-assembled The Durango Collection™ with H. Jackson Clark Sr., now housed at Fort Lewis College’s Center of Southwest Studies. An author of numerous books—including The Master Weavers (2011), Saddle Up! (2015), and Eye on the Storm (2018)—he has also written extensively on Mexican and New Mexican textiles. Winter has advised major museums, collectors, and Sotheby’s NY, and lectured widely across the U.S. and Mexico. He and his wife Linda live on the Navajo Nation, where they operate the Historic Toadlena Trading Post and Weaving Museum and support local weavers through their nonprofit, Blessingway.
