We Use the Best Water Filter System on the Market at Baba Olga’s
With our emphasis on sustainability and buying local, we didn’t want to rely on environmentally-wasteful bottled water to serve at Baba Olga’s Café. We knew that bottled water is bad for the environment and wastes fossil fuels in production and transport. Plus, about 75 percent of those empty plastic water bottles end up in our landfills, lakes, streams and oceans, where they may never fully decompose. But, “Schuylkill Punch” right out of the tap wasn’t up to our taste standards.
So we researched water filter systems. Some of the good ones are manufactured in Italy, where the technology first developed, but we wanted to work with a domestic company. We chose Vero Water out of Florida. When we contacted the company, it turned out their vice-president grew up in Bala Cynwyd, PA and was on his way to visit his folks. He stopped in and convinced us that working with his company was the best way to go.
The Vero purification system we chose removes impurities, chemicals and imperfections using the latest in purification technology. After running through five types of filters, the water is perfectly chilled and delivered still or sparkling. Better yet, the system is designed to create a nearly zero carbon footprint.
At Baba Olga’s, all water served to customers and used in the kitchen is filtered; even our ice is made from filtered water. Although it’s not inexpensive to lease the equipment and pay for the filters, we provide this clean, light water at no charge to our customers because it’s something we believe in.
