Material Culture is excited to present The Encyclopaedia Iranica Foundation Collection, featuring works by prominent Iranian artists in our upcoming auction. This diverse lineup of 134 lots includes Sadegh Tabrizi (1938-2017), known for his evocative paintings exploring themes of identity and memory, with a notable piece from 2009 (Lot 313) estimated at $5,000 to $10,000. Parviz Kalantari (1931-2016) offers Shirin (Lot 314), a work that reflects his deep connection to Persian culture and mythology, estimated at $2,000 to $4,000. Mohammad Ali Taraghijah (1943-2010), celebrated for his unique approach to color and form, is represented by a painting (Lot 320) estimated at $5,000 to $10,000. Hadi Jamali (1950-2024) presents a striking mixed media piece from 2005 (Lot 322), estimated at $2,000 to $4,000. Shirin Neshat (b. 1957), renowned for her powerful commentary on gender and culture, is represented by two works from her series Games of Desire (Lots 323 and 324), each estimated at $2,000 to $4,000. Nikzad “Nicky” Nodjoumi (b. 1942) showcases his bold narrative style in a 2006 painting (Lot 326), estimated at $1,000 to $2,000. Nasrollah Afjei (b. 1933) offers a beautiful calligraphy piece (Lot 353), estimated at $3,000 to $6,000, highlighting the rich tradition of Persian script. Auction proceeds from the sale of this artwork will benefit the Encyclopaedia Iranica, a comprehensive compendium dedicated to the study of Iranian civilization in the Middle East, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. The Encyclopaedia Iranica Foundation was established in 1990 with the mission to guarantee the Encyclopaedia Iranica’s intellectual independence and ensure its ongoing publication both in digital and print versions.
