His grandson, Teddy Sumner, an accomplished artist and designer, has directed the company since 1980 and been an important figure in reviving the art of the carpet for over three decades. A hallmark of Michaelian and Kohlberg projects has been a reverence for tradition as well as innovation, and a respect for the people and cultures from which these art forms originate.
